Widening the usefulness of epoxides and aziridines in synthesis

چکیده
Epoxides and aziridines are common intermediates in synthesis. Readily accessible in enantioenriched form, they are typically used as electrophiles, taking advantage of their predictable highly regioselective ring-opening reactions. Our work in the area of α-lithiated terminal epoxides and aziridines indicates that there are many other less conventional but useful reactions of these small-ring heterocycles [1].

Organocatalyzed enantioselective desymmetrization of aziridines and epoxides
Enantioselective desymmetrization of meso-aziridines and meso-epoxides with various nucleophiles by organocatalysis has emerged as a cutting-edge approach in recent years. This review summarizes the origin and recent developments of enantioselective desymmetrization of meso-aziridines and meso-epoxides in the presence of organocatalysts.
متن کاملStereoselective synthesis of three-membered ring compounds via ylide routes
Three types of small ring compounds (epoxides, aziridines and cyclopropanes) can be synthesized stereoselectively via ylide route. Among them, the stereochemistry of vinyloxiranes, vinylaziridines, cyclopropylesters, amides and ketones can be tuned by the choice of reaction conditions and ylides with varying heteroatoms and ligands. Optically active epoxides and acetylenylaziridines can be prep...
متن کاملStereocontrolled synthesis of beta-amino alcohols from lithiated aziridines and boronic esters.
From natural products to ligands for asymmetric catalysis, the b-amino alcohol motif is ubiquitous. The importance of this motif to such a broad spectrum of chemistry has prompted the development of a range of methodologies for its synthesis which include Sharpless aminohydroxylation as well as the addition of nucleophiles to aminocarbonyls, imines, epoxides, and aziridines. We considered a con...
متن کاملNature’s Enzymes Tricked with Xenobiotic Oxidants
The relationship between enzyme engineers and synthetic organic chemists is simultaneously symbiotic and competitive. Synthetic chemists often find their inspiration in the active sites of enzymes, but celebrate any ability to outmaneuver nature’s catalysts. Scientists who create new enzymes, for their part, are quick to point out how elegantly and rapidly catalytic proteins stitch together mol...
متن کاملMild metal-free syn-stereoselective ring opening of activated epoxides and aziridines with aryl borates.
A conceptually new, simple and practical method for the syn-nucleophilic displacement of aryl and vinyl epoxides and aryl aziridines with (substituted) phenols, using aryl borates as activating nucleophiles under neutral conditions, is reported.
